Parallel Flow in Oracle Integration 3 (OIC 3)

Oracle Integration Cloud 3,  also known as OIC 3 brings a plethora of new features like Parallel flow and Cut-Paste etc. Using Parallel flow one can define branches to run two or more actions in parallel. Parallel flows enable to perform multiple tasks at the same time, it is especially useful when you must perform several time-consuming and independent tasks.

Let’s look at this OIC 3 feature with a simple example.
When a Purchase Order (PO)  is created in ERP Cloud, a event is generated, OIC subscribes to ERP Cloud Purchase Order (PO) event and send this information to downstream systems.  In this example we will see how to use the Oracle Integration ERP Cloud adapter to subscribe to ERP Cloud business events and send to multiple targets in parallel.

High-level steps to achieve this -
  • Create new connections for Oracle ERP Cloud, ADW and FTP
  • Create a new Integration and add trigger, invokes and the mappings
  • Save and Activate the Integration
Log into Oracle Integration Cloud service console

Navigate to connections page to create connection

Create Oracle ERP Cloud Connection

Create Oracle ADW Connection

Create FTP Connection

All connections are configured and ready to be used in integration

Navigate to integrations page to create a new integration

At the center that you are seeing is a canvas where you will drag and drop actions such as triggers, invokes and mappings to build an integration flow.

Drag and Drop the ERP Cloud Connection as trigger and configure

Choose the Parallel activity and drag to the canvas after the ERP trigger

Can add name and description for the Parallel activity and each branches

OIC 3 has another interesting feature added to Cut and Paste the activities. This helps when you need to move a particular activity in your integration.

Choose the activity you want to move and select Cut

Now click on the + sign where you want to move the activity and then click paste

Now, click on Save and then your integration is ready for activation

Click on activate to activate the Integration

Integration is now active and ready to use

Now lets test the Integration. For testing we have to log into Oracle ERP Cloud and Create a new Purchase Order

Complete the details and click on the SUBMIT button. Kindly note the PO Number.

Now, when I go to Oracle Integration Cloud Service console and the Observability page to track the integration which I built, I can see the business event for Purchase Order I just created has been received and the integration has successfully processed the PO to FTP and ADW. In this case it has taken 10 seconds to complete the overall process.

Now, let me dive into tracking details where I can show you the request has been processed in parallel to multiple targets

Please do note another change in OIC 3, Instance Id in OIC 3 is alphanumeric whereas Instance Id in earlier versions were numeric.

Now lets check the Purchase order in both the targets ADW and FTP

We can see the Purchase Order was successfully synced in both systems

So we have seen, how easily we can establish the integration between the systems using OIC and also touched on some of the new of new features available in OIC 3.

Seamless Opportunity to Order Integration for Oracle eBusiness Suite Using OIC3

Some of the world's largest enterprises are running their mission-critical workloads on Oracle's next generation cloud platform called Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and rely on Oracle E-Business Suite to run their key business operations. Running Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) on Oracle Cloud - OCI enables you to:

•  Increase business agility
•  Better manage growth
•  Reduce time and cost for new projects
•  Maximize the productivity of your IT staff

Cloud integration is one of the complexities faced by EBS Customers. How do you make a smooth transition to a hybrid model that includes cloud and on-premises information systems, and a growing set of intelligent devices within the IOT world.

In this blog I will show you how to develop a cohesive integration strategy that upholds your development standards, and ease of use, opening the door to a new future taking EBS as an example.

As an example, a typical “Opportunity to Order” process involves once a Sales Rep updates an Opportunity status to WON in Engagement Cloud, the corresponding Sales order for that opportunity is manually created in EBS system.

With this manual process, primarily customers are facing some key challenges such as

•  Order entry errors
•  Prolonged Order approvals, scheduling, fulfilling & tracking cycle
•  Delay of invoicing and payments.

Seamlessly integrating the Engagement Cloud opportunities with the orders in Oracle EBS in real time and having orders created reduces processing time and increases customer satisfaction.

In this blog we are going to see how an opportunity in the engagement cloud flows through the oracle integration cloud passing few checks and finally creates the sales order in the EBS system. So lets get started.

Seamless Integration between Oracle Engagement Cloud and Oracle EBS can be achieved through the 3 simple steps.

• Create new connections for Oracle EBS & Oracle Engagement Cloud
• Create a new Integration and add trigger, invokes and the mappings
• Save and Activate the Integration

Log into Oracle Integration Cloud service console

Navigate to connections page to create a new connection

Click on Create Connection to create a new connection

Select EBS Adapter

Then enter a name and select a role

and then enter URL and security access details. These are only details you need to connect to EBS System. Then click on the Test button to test the connection.

You should be ready to use this connection in your integration when you see the test connection is successful.

Likewise create a connection for Oracle Engagement Cloud, test it and save the connection.

Navigate to integrations page to create a new integration

Click on Create to create a new integration

Select an integration style

and enter a name to create new integration

At the center that you are seeing is a canvas where you will drag and drop actions such as triggers, invokes and mappings to build an integration flow.

For EBS, after you drag and drop the adapter connection for invoke, you need to provide the properties such as name, processing mode, operation and business object along with the mappings to create a Sales order into EBS.

This is how simple to build an integration flow by dragging and dropping various actions which gives you a true low code experience.

Now, click on Save and then your integration is ready for activation.

This is how simple you can establish the integration between the systems using Oracle Integration Cloud.

Click on activate to activate the Integration

Select the required level of tracing for the integration

Integration is now active and ready to use.

Now lets test the Integration. For testing we have to log into Oracle Engagement Cloud and Create a new Opportunity.

Click on Opportunities to create a new Opportunity

Then, Create a new Opportunity by entering the details.

Then, click on save and continue to edit the opportunity.

Now I have added a new item and quantity

Now in this Opportunity edit screen, I am going to change the status from Open To WON with a reason and then click on the SAVE button

Now, when I go to Oracle Integration Cloud Service console and the Observability page to track the integration which I built, I can see the business event for an opportunity I just created has been received and the integration has successfully processed the Sales Order creation into EBS. In this case it has taken 14 seconds to complete the overall process.

Now, let me dive into tracking details where I can show you the EBS Order Number that I received in response returned as part of Sales Order creation step.

Kindly note that in OIC3 the Instance Id is Alphanumeric.

Now lets check the order in EBS. Login to EBS system and navigate to Orders page

We can see the Sales order was successfully created into EBS system.

So we have seen, How easily we can establish the integration between the systems using OIC and how it helped in introducing zero manual intervention in the overall opportunity to order process.

Oracle Integration Cloud can help EBS on OCI customers by making it faster, less risky, and less costly to innovate their app ecosystem.
